Shot fired at Kan. detective
By Christine Vendel
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Kansas City police have surrounded two houses in the 3900 block of Wabash Avenue after a gunman shot at an undercover detective.
Police said the detective was sitting in a vehicle at 40th Street and Wabash about 11:30 a.m. when a man approached and began struggling with the officer. The man then fled and a short time later someone shot out the back window of the detective’s vehicle. The detective suffered some minor cuts on his arm from flying glass, but was not otherwise injured.
A witness told police that the suspect ran into a house in the 3900 block of Wabash. Police weren’t sure which house, so they surrounded two houses and asked the people inside to come out. Five did, including two children. Tactical officers and others then began an Operation 100, waiting to see if anyone else was in the house.
