DALLAS — A Carrollton police officer shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at cops outside his home late Wednesday night, police said.

Officers were called to the home in the 2300 block of York Court, west of North Marsh Lane, about 8:50 p.m., regarding a man barricaded inside with weapons, said police spokesman Sgt. John Singleton.

As the tactical unit and negotiators were setting up, the man emerged from the home about 10 p.m. and pointed a handgun at officers, Sgt. Singleton said.

It is unclear whether any words were exchanged before one officer fired a single shot, striking the man, Sgt. Singleton said. The man was taken to Trinity Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police did not release the man's name early Thursday. The officer will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
