3 hurt in shooting at Juneteenth festival
MINNEAPOLIS — Shots were fired during the Juneteenth festival in Minneapolis, sending people scrambling for cover, and three people were wounded, police said.
No one was seriously injured, authorities said.
Police Sgt. D.F. McCormick said the shots were fired at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, about a half hour before the celebration was scheduled to end.
McCormick said it appeared to be gang related, but the investigation was continuing.
Two people were wounded at the WCCO Radio promotional booth. A bullet grazed the ankle of part-time radio promotions employee Mike Kinghorn, 23, who said a bank employee was shot in the thigh.
Juneteenth celebrates the freeing of African-American slaves. A member of the local Juneteenth board of directors said the event is supposed to be healing, and the shooting hurts the whole African-American community.
