BOSTON A police officer fatally shot a suspect who led cops on a chase through Boston.
Boston police followed a suspected hit-and-run driver who was seen Tuesday trying to stop a woman from climbing out of his car, The Boston Herald reported. The unidentified male driver fled onto the interstate and drove about 16 miles before police caught up and discharged their weapons. He was declared dead at South Shore Hospital at 12:45 pm.
Skid marks from the vehicle were visible following the chase, which stopped traffic as cars veered from the path of dozens of police cruisers, authorities said. The suspect hit at least one police cruiser, and as many as 80 officers from both Boston and state police arrived on the scene.
The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation. It is unclear whether the suspect was armed.
