Police: undercover officer fires at gunman in Brooklyn shooting

NEW YORK- An undercover police officer fired several rounds at a man who had just shot two other men, both of whom died, police said.

The gunman was still at large after the Wednesday afternoon shooting. Police said it was unclear if he had been hit by bullets from the officer's gun.

Jevon Harrell, 26, was declared dead at the scene of the shooting, which took place on a street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of the borough. The other man, 31-year-old Michael Stann, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The undercover officer, who was not identified, happened to be driving by during the shooting. He fired all five rounds of his .38-caliber at the gunman, who then fled, police said.
