LOS ANGELES — An armed carjacking suspect who had led police on an odd, slow-speed chase through the streets of Los Angeles was shot and killed at a gas station in the Koreatown section of LA. The suspect had stopped the vehicle and “pulled out his revolver and pointed it at people inside the store,” said LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith in an article posted on the website of the LA Times.
A video of the confrontation captured by a TV news helicopter shows the decisive action taken by LAPD officers who put multiple rounds into the stolen older-model Saturn vehicle. A bystander is seen diving for cover between a nearby car and the gas pumps.
The suspect was killed, the bystander uninjured, and all officers involved were safe following the incident. The gunman has not yet been identified, but police did say a revolver was recovered from inside the stolen vehicle.
