INDIANAPOLIS — A man who was shot and killed by police after allegedly wounding four SWAT officers watched them approach the suspected drug house on surveillance cameras, Indianapolis' public safety director said.

Police said Andrew Sizemore, 27, of Indianapolis died Wednesday when officers returned fire after Sizemore allegedly shot and wounded four SWAT officers. None of those officers suffered life-threatening injuries. Two remained hospitalized Thursday.

Public Safety Director Troy Riggs said Sizemore apparently watched approaching police on the home's surveillance cameras. He said the house was heavily protected and set up to support the suspects' drug-selling operations.

The home's surveillance cameras would have allowed the occupants to prepare for the officers.

"That put our officers at a disadvantage, but they overcame it," Riggs told The Indianapolis Star.

"None of us want these things to happen," Riggs said, "but at the end of the day with the aggressiveness with which your police department is going after those who are committing criminal acts, this is always a possibility."

Police arrested five people inside the house and confiscated heroin, hundreds of prescription pills, 13 guns and $126,000 in cash. Police estimated the street value of the seized items at $500,000 to $750,000.

Police said a woman at the home was detained for questioning and four vehicles were also confiscated.
