ARROYO, Calif. — An Arroyo Grande police officer suffered moderate injuries in a hit-and-run collision Saturday.

Sgt. Albert Beattie was treated and released from Arroyo Grande Community Hospital after he was struck while driving a sport utility vehicle on patrol, police said.

Beattie was allegedly broadsided by an SUV driven by Joseph Valentine Moreno, 27, of Nipomo, as he stopped at the intersection at South Elm Street and East Grande Avenue around 1 a.m., according to Arroyo Grande police.

Moreno allegedly left the scene of the collision before being spotted by a sheriff’s deputy who pursued him. He was arrested after crashing on Willow Road, police said.

Moreno was booked at County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI causing bodily injury, felony hit-and-run and felony evading a police officer. Bail was set at $100,000.

Moreno suffered a minor laceration, police said.
