JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — A Johnson City police officer is recovering after being struck by a vehicle while assisting another motorist who ran out of gas.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says 25-year-old officer Alex Perry was helping a driver push a vehicle from a three-road intersection Tuesday so it could roll down the hill to a gas station.
Perry stopped traffic and helped move the car. A vehicle turning left through the intersection then struck him.
The driver, 72-year-old Elizabeth Whitehead Miller, did not see that Perry had stopped traffic and was standing in the middle of the road. She was cited for failure to carry proof of insurance.
