CHANDLER, Ariz. — A Chandler police officer on bike patrol was assaulted Tuesday evening when his left arm was slammed in a car door as he attempted to arrest a suspect.

According to a police report, while working in the 300 block of North Arizona Avenue the officer determined Hugene Thomas Bishop had a warrant out for his arrest. When the officer approached Bishop's vehicle he complied with an order to turn off his engine, but when asked to exit the vehicle he quickly began to roll up his car window, the report said.

When the officer tried to remove Bishop from the vehicle Bishop shut the car door on the officer's arm and attempted to resist arrest, police said.

Bishop was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
