PoliceOne Member Photo of the Week:
Priceless

A fellow officer, Officer John Young, working the night shift was assisting another officer on a traffic stop. The traffic stop was nearly complete as Young was walking back to his unit.

Officer Young saw and heard in the distance a speeding vehicle approaching his location. As the speeding van came closer it was apparent that the vehicle driver was oblivious to his presence (even though there were two patrol units with overhead lights on).

The driver was so oblivious that he drove straight towards Officer Young's cruiser. Young had just enough time to open his car door and dive headfirst into the unit before his vehicle was struck.

Of course, the driver was so kind to stick around to see if anyone was hurt and left the scene in a hurry. Long story short, the van and driver was found a few blocks away with the driver hiding inside the rear of the van pretending that he had been asleep for quite some time.

The driver, of course, was arrested for DUI and got a free safe ride to the Grady County Jail.

After Officer Young counted his blessings and after the adrenaline wore off, our shift sergeant was so kind to follow up with this funny picture that memorialized the incident.
