4 Chicago cops slightly injured in crash

Tribune reporter

CHICAGO, Ill. — Four Chicago police officers were slightly injured on the South Side on Tuesday night when they crashed into a vehicle they were pursuing.

The officers, who were traveling in an unmarked squad car, were last reported in good condition in Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Chicago police Officer John Henry said.

He said the officers were pursuing the car because its occupants were believed to have guns. Shortly after the chase began, the suspects' vehicle crashed into a pole.

"Subsequently, the squad car struck the [suspects'] vehicle," Henry said, adding that four people inside the vehicle were taken into custody. They were not hurt. Information about whether guns were confiscated from the vehicle was not available early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened about 11 p.m. in the vicinity of South Prairie Avenue and East Pershing Road.
