ROCKVILLE, N.Y. — A Rockville Centre police officer was briefly hospitalized early yesterday after being attacked by a man who pushed, kicked and fought with him while he was being placed under arrest, authorities said.

Charles Parsley, 24, of 188 N. Centre Ave., was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

According to police, the officer saw Parsley acting suspiciously in front of a home on Locust Avenue around 1:52 a.m.

Police said Parsley pushed the officer and ran from the scene. The officer caught up with Parsley, who then kicked and fought with the officer, police said. Parsley was arrested after another officer arrived on the scene.

The officer was treated at a hospital for rib contusions along with knee and rib sprains, and released. Police did not say whether Parsley was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. Parsley is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead today.
