Va. trooper hit by police car
The Richmond Times-Dispatch
NORFOLK, VA – A state trooper helped arrest a speeding motorcyclist in Norfolk on Wednesday night despite being struck by another police car during the pursuit.
Trooper Lee C. White III had cornered a motorcyclist in a cul-de- sac, and during the ensuing foot pursuit White was struck and knocked to the ground by a car driven by another state trooper, police said.
White got up and continued the pursuit. Police say he helped to apprehend Brian V. Price, 28, of Norfolk, who now faces charges of reckless driving, resisting arrest, felony eluding police, and riding a motorcycle with no license and no inspection.
Sgt. Lawrence Brown, a state police spokesman, said the pursuit began when White spotted three motorcycles going in excess of 90 mph on Interstate 64 westbound near Indian River Road in Virginia Beach.
When two of the motorcyclists exited the highway at Northampton, White continued to pursue the motorcyclist who remained on the highway, he said.
Brown said the motorcyclist exited the highway at Norview Avenue in Norfolk and ended up turning onto LeePage Street, a cul-de-sac that presented the motorcyclist with a dead end.
Brown said White got out of his vehicle and pulled the man to the ground, but he broke free and ran. While White was chasing him, trooper James Peters arrived to provide assistance, and he struck White, Brown said.
White got up and continued his pursuit. An off-duty Norfolk police officer tackled the motorcyclist, and White helped arrest and handcuff him.
