Ga. shootout kills suspect, wounds 2 cops
The Associated Press
ATLANTA — Atlanta police say a burglary suspect is dead and two police officers are wounded after a shootout.
Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington says the officers do not have life-threatening injuries from the Tuesday morning incident.
One officer was shot in the neck and the other was bruised on his chest when a bullet struck his bulletproof vest.
Pennington says the officers were assigned to a unit aimed at reducing burglaries in the southwest Atlanta neighborhood.
They approached three burglary suspects in front of a home and one suspect fired an automatic weapon at them. The officers returned fire, killing one.
Police did not identify the officers and suspects.
