Video: Boy rides in front of cruiser, is struck

Deputy's quick reaction likely saved boy who rode in front of cruiser

By PoliceOne Staff

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — A dash cam captured the moment a boy on a bike rode into the path of a police vehicle in recently-released video.

In the video, the boy suddenly pulled out of a secluded driveway as a Kalamazoo County Sheriff's deputy drove down the street last Tuesday, and the cop was unable to avoid hitting him, according to WWMT. The deputy was driving below the speed limit and braked immediately, which likely saved the boy's life.

The 10-year-old wasn't hurt, with Kalamazoo County police crediting the split-second thinking of the deputy behind the wheel.
