SAN JOSE — San Jose police shot and killed an auto-theft suspect Monday night after he rammed his car into an unmarked police car and accelerated toward a plainclothes officer, authorities said.
Officers in two unmarked cars spotted a stolen Honda about 6:45 p.m. on South White Road and began following it, police said. The cars ended up on Athene Drive about 5 miles northeast of downtown San Jose, where the Honda driver threw the vehicle into reverse and rammed one of the unmarked cruisers, then lurched forward and hit a parked car, said Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County sheriff's office.
"One of the officers at that time had already gotten out of his vehicle," Cardoza said. "That's when the suspect began to press the accelerator at high speed toward the officer, and the officer opened fire."
