A man who jokingly asked a female police officer to take him to jail while flirting with her got his wish less than two hours later when the same officer arrested him on a number of charges after a carjacking.

About 12:15 a.m. Friday an officer sitting in her patrol car near 700 East and 500 South was approached by two men who began making comments to her, said Salt Lake City police detective Joe Cyr.

"They said, 'Hey baby, take me to jail,"' Cyr said.

About an hour later, two cars pulled into the parking lot of a gas station near 500 East and 1200 South. The two drivers had had some sort of argument just a week earlier, he said, and started fighting again Friday. One man attempted to hit the other with a brick and then jumped into the other man's car and drove off, nearly hitting the victim as he left.

The same female officer who was sitting in her patrol car earlier spotted the stolen vehicle and gave chase, Cyr said. The driver stopped, got out of his car and then ran off.

Police K9 "Jango" was sent to the area and found the man hiding in a shed. The man tried running again and escaped by climbing over a fence. Jango bit the man's leg and held onto him until officers could make the arrest, Cyr said.

The 27-year-old man was taken to the hospital to be treated for the bite before being taken to jail. While at the hospital, the female officer went to check on the man for her police report.

When she confronted him, she discovered it was the same man from earlier in the evening.

"Are you the cop I ran from?" Cyr said the man asked the officer. "I was the one who was flirting with you earlier and said 'take me to jail."'

This time, the officer complied with the request.
