TUCSON, Arizona
A Mexican man has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for ramming a U.S. law enforcement officer's car while carrying nearly 650 pounds (290 kilograms) of marijuana in his truck.

Jesus Manuel Ochoa Estrada, 21, of Cananea, Sonora, was sentenced Tuesday, The Arizona Daily Star reported.

Prosecutors said Ochoa Estrada was fleeing from federal agents toward Mexico in February 2004 when he rammed the car of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer and then led officers from three agencies on a 15-mile (24-kilometer) chase between Bisbee and Mexico.

Ochoa Estrada was caught after abandoning his truck with 647.5 pounds (291 kilograms) of marijuana in it.

He was convicted of charges including assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.
