Atlanta police kill robbery suspect

A man who authorities say robbed a southeast Atlanta post office was shot and killed by police Friday evening, the second fatal officer-involved shooting this week for the Atlanta police department.
He was not identified.
Police said the man robbed a post office on Metropolitan Avenue shortly before 5 p.m.
He was pursued by a marked police car for about a block and a half, and pulled over near the East Atlanta Ace Hardware store on Glenwood Avenue, Keeney said.
The man then ran from the car, chased by two officers. Witnesses to the incident said the man then drew a gun and fired at the officers, prompting them to fire back.
Keeney said further investigation will determine who fired the first shot or whether both officers were involved in the gunfire exchange.
The fatal shooting came three days after a 92-year-old woman, Kathryn Johnston, died in a hail of bullets when she fired at three undercover police officers who broke down the door to her northwest Atlanta home.
Police said they had a "no knock" warrant to search the woman's Neal Street house for drugs. But the shooting has triggered protests from different quarters, including a call for a federal investigation.
