A New York City teen was arrested for murder Wednesday near Star City by West Virginia State Police, the New York City Police Department and the U.S. Marshal service.
Park will be charged with second-degree murder and other crimes after he is extradited to New York, said Kevin Czartoryski, NYPD detective.
Czartoryski said Lee was trying to break up a fight in the club at around 4 a.m. Oct. 8, when a large group of men swinging baseball bats and pipes attacked him. Lee died from severe trauma to his head and body shortly after being transported to an area hospital.
A second man, 21, was injured, but survived the assault. His name was not released.
NYPD tracked Park to West Virginia last week and contacted the U.S. Marshal's Service Regional Task Force in Clarksburg for assistance, according to J.C. Raffety, U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Raffety said Park was taken into custody without incident early Wednesday morning by at least six law enforcement officers.
"This arrest was the result of positive cooperation between New York and West Virginia law enforcement agencies," he said.
Raffety would not provide the address where Park was arrested other than to say it was outside Star City near Morgantown.
Marcia Ashdown, Monongalia County prosecuting attorney, said Park was released to the custody of NYPD to face pending charges. Because Park is a juvenile, the prosecutor's office was unable to provide any additional information as to the charges Park may face.
Cpl. R. Garrison, West Virginia State Police, had no comment about the case.
