N.J. -- The head of Jersey City's police union is blaming the state Department of Transportation for the deaths of two Jersey City cops on the Lincoln Highway Bridge last month.
Harry Sandwith, president of the Jersey City Police Officers Benevolent Association, said the state agency's failure to fix broken equipment on the lift bridge set the stage for the Christmas night tragedy.
He also said the bridge operator didn't adequately warn the police that he was about to raise the bridge.
