A 26-year-old man being sought in connection with a series of South Los Angeles robberies was shot to death Sunday afternoon by a police officer after a brief foot chase, authorities said.
Mike Lopez, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, said the suspect was shot after allegedly pointing a handgun at two officers who were running after him near Exposition Park.
The suspect initially fled, but after a short distance turned with his gun toward the officers, Lopez said.
One of the officers then fired two shots that struck the man in the head.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lopez described him as a gang member with several felony convictions on robbery, burglary and narcotics charges.
