CHP officer killed in Modesto
Officer Down: Earl Scott - [Modesto, California]
Additional Informaiton: Officer Scott served with the California Highway Patrol for five years. He is survived by his father, stepmother, and sister. His father and two uncles all retired as sergeants from the California Highway Patrol. One of Officer Scott's cousins currently serves as a sergeant with the agency.
Cause of Death: Officer Earl Scott was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on Highway 99 in Stanislaus County.
Date of Incident: February 17, 2006
Suspect Information: The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. The California license plate number of the1990 Nissan Maxima is 5KWA335.
MODESTO, Calif. -- Authorities are looking for a dark green 1990 Nissan Maxima in connection with the killing of a California Highway Patrol officer at about 4:40 this morning, CHP Sgt. Wayne Ziese said.
The officer was fatally shot on northbound state Highway 99 in the town of Ripon, Ziese said.
The California license plate number of the Nissan is 5KWA335.
All lanes are closed on the northbound side of the highway between Modesto and Stockton during the investigation, Ziese said.
A detour has been set up, directing drivers to Interstate Highway 5
