Suspect allegedly wanted a handout

NEW ORLEANS — An off-duty New Orleans police officer was in stable condition after he was stabbed by a man who asked him and fellow officers for money on Canal Boulevard early Sunday, New Orleans police said.
The victim was stabbed twice in the chest and taken to a hospital. He and the other officers were not identified.
Police booked Willie Price, 41, of New Orleans, with two counts of attempted armed robbery, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of resisting an officer.
