DETROIT, Mich. — A Detroit Police officer shot and killed a 30-year-old man who tried to take an officer's gun while being arrested on the city's west side early Saturday morning, police said.
Police removed two people from the car for questioning. As officers handcuffed one man, he struggled and attempted to grab the officer's gun, Tate said. The officer's partner then fatally shot the man in the chest, he said.
It is unclear if the car was involved in the robbery, but a handgun was recovered from inside, Tate said.
The officer who shot the man will be on administrative duty while investigations proceed, he said.
