Prisoner takes deputy hostage in courtroom

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--A prisoner took a sheriff's deputy hostage Friday at the Pulaski County courthouse, where the inmate had been taken for a scheduled hearing. The inmate was believed to have a homemade weapon, sheriff's spokesman Cody Burk said. Burk did not provide any further details. The courthouse was evacuated after the deputy was taken hostage about 10 a.m. The deputy was still being held about an hour later.
