CHANTILLY, Va. — A police detective was killed and two officers were seriously wounded when a heavily armed teenager opened fire outside a suburban Fairfax County, Va., police station Monday.

Fairfax County Police Chief David Rohrer said that 40-year-old Detective Vicky Armel, who had just walked out of the station, was shot and killed by Michael W. Kennedy, 18.

Kennedy was armed with a high-powered hunting rifle, five pistols and an AK-47-style assault weapon, police said. Rohrer said the attack, in which Kennedy fired more than 70 rounds, was unprovoked.
