Adam Baker of the Saratoga Springs Police Department was released from Albany Medical Center yesterday afternoon, a day after his carotid artery was slashed as he attempted to take a 19-year-old man into custody.
Authorities say the 30-year-old officer approached Seth Dawson of Shushan (SHOO'-shuhn) in Washington County after Saratoga police received a request from the mental health facility to pick up Dawson.
Police say Dawson pulled out a razor and slashed Baker's neck, coming within a quarter-inch of killing the officer.
Baker was airlifted to Albany Med, where he underwent surgery Wednesday night.
Dawson has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
