Lancaster, PA- A Warwick Township police officer was scratched and injured by a woman arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a crash near Rothsville on Tuesday night, police said.

Tina Betz, 42, of 445 N. Oak St., Lititz, crashed a 1997 Jeep Cherokee about 9 p.m. in the 1500 block of Rothsville Road (Route 772), west of the Newport Road intersection, police said.

Officer Derrick Oleszczuk arrested Betz for suspected drunken driving, and the woman was placed in the back of Officer Sam Dabella's police cruiser in handcuffs to be taken to the Lititz police station for a blood-alcohol test.

Betz was able to slip out of the handcuffs on her way to Lititz, Sgt. Richard Rhinier said. Dabella stopped his cruiser when he realized the woman had done this. Rhinier said Betz kicked at the police officer, then scratched him in the face and pulled his hair when he opened the back door of the cruiser to secure the woman.

Dabella was treated at Ephrata Community Hospital. Betz was being charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer, Rhinier said.

Earlier Tuesday, a young Chester County man was injured when his car struck a house next to the White Horse Luncheonette along Route 340 in Salisbury Township, state police said.

Eduardo D. Pantoja-Fernandez, 20, of Avondale, was taken to Brandywine Hospital near Coatesville following the 6:07 a.m. crash, Trooper Thomas D. Swiech said.

Pantoja-Fernandez was driving west when he attempted to pass another vehicle on the left in the area of Route 897, Swiech said.

The driver whose vehicle Pantoja-Fernandez was passing had started to make a left turn into the parking lot for the White Horse Luncheonette, 5560 Old Philadelphia Pike, Gap. Pantoja-Fernandez accelerated, and his car jumped a curb. It then traveled through the restaurant parking lot and struck a home next to the restaurant, police said.
