AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin police officer shot in the foot during a shootout with a man early today has been treated and released from Brackenridge Hospital, officials said.
A man authorities think was shot by police was conscious on the way to the hospital and was reportedly taken to surgery.
Austin police Cmdr. Sean Mannix said officers from the department’s organized crime division were attempting to serve a warrant at a house around 6 a.m. in the 6100 block of Club Terrace Drive, near Montopolis. Mannix said the unidentified man who was shot, who was described as being in his 60s, opened fire and that at least one officer fired back.
The officers called for backup from the department’s SWAT team. It was unclear how officers gained entry to the house. Officers say the house is clear and no one else was injured.
