BLOOMINGTON- A Bloomington police sergeant charged in four rapes will continue collecting a city paycheck, likely until his case is decided in court.

City Attorney Todd Greenburg said the city opted to continue paying Jeff Pelo's $81,000 annual salary to spare the alleged victims.

If Pelo were fired or place on unpaid leave, Greenburg said the city would have to present evidence supporting the move and those victims would likely be required to testify at a disciplinary hearing.

Greenburg said the city could revisit Pelo's employment status if new evidence surfaces before his court case concludes.

The 41-year-old remains on paid leave after being charged last week with four assaults dating back to 2002. He's jailed in lieu of $2 million bond.
