WABASH, Ind. — A Wabash park has been dedicated to the memory of an Indiana State Police trooper who was shot to death during a traffic stop in July.
About 150 people, including state troopers, local police and family members attended the dedication ceremony Wednesday for Master Trooper David Rich Memorial Park.
A Christmas tree decorated with blue lights stood near a monument dedicating the park in Rich's honor.
Rich was shot in the chest after he stopped to help a motorist he thought was stranded along U.S. 24 near Wabash about 40 miles southwest of Fort Wayne. That driver then reloaded his shotgun and killed himself.
Rich was a detective and an 18-year veteran of the force.
