Wash. trooper fatally shoots attacker after TASER has no effect

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The Federal Way police department is investigating the fatal shooting by a state trooper on I-5 on Christmas Day.
The patrol says a Taser had no effect on the man so the trooper fired his gun. Witnesses heard five or six shots. The man died at the scene.
Federal Way police spokeswoman Stacy Flores says the man had been a passenger in a car with a woman and two children and got out at an on-ramp (at 320th Street South).
A patrol spokesman, Cliff Pratt, says 1 of the juveniles said the man had not slept for the past few days and had been acting erratically. He reportedly worked as a truck driver.
The trooper involved is an 11-year veteran who is on paid leave during the shooting investigation.
