DENVER — Gerry Whitman has been chief of the Denver Police Department since 2000. He joined the force in 1982 as a patrol officer. He has repeatedly declined to discuss what equipment or tactics police might use during the convention, but he recently answered a few questions by e-mail from Denver Post staff writer Christopher N.
