Police pay $70K to settle TASER death

SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose officials have agreed to pay $70,000 to the wife and child of a man who died in 2005 after city police jolted him with Taser stun-guns and beat him with batons to subdue him during a domestic dispute.
The proposed settlement over the death of Jose Angel Rios, which the City Council is expected to approve Tuesday, is the city's first involving a fatality linked to the controversial stun guns, said Assistant City Attorney George Rios.
