Simulation helps Ariz. police practice driving maneuvers and techniques
By Sean Higgins
COOLIDGE, Ariz. — Members of the Coolidge Police Department were given the opportunity to remediate themselves in evasive driving techniques and procedures without ever hitting the pavement.
The remediation took place March 18 in the parking lot of the police department at 911 S. Arizona Blvd. and was simulated through a virtual driving simulator supplied by Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training board (POST).
The simulator is a valuable tool for officers statewide. It gives rookie and veteran officers alike the opportunity to practice maneuvers and techniques in a safe environment without real hazards. Lifelike scenarios depicting pursuits, evasive driving techniques, and loss of breaks, amongst many more, were included in the training.
