ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two New York police officers have been shot while responding to an emergency call at an apartment building, but their injuries don't appear to be life-threatening.
Police say the officers were fired upon late Tuesday night when they interrupted a home invasion in Rochester, one of the state's biggest cities. The officers were wearing bulletproof vests but were hit in their upper bodies. Police say it's unclear if the officers returned fire.
The officers have been taken to a hospital, where Chief David Moore has visited them. Their names haven't been released.
Investigators have closed off an avenue in a residential area near the century-old Catholic school The Aquinas Institute while searching for whoever shot the officers.
Police spokesman LaRon Singletary says at least one man is being sought.
