who fired at officer

(PORTLAND, Ore.)-Police have arrested and lodged attempted murder charges against a 21-year-old man accused of firing shots at a police officer who was attempting to pull over his vehicle last week.

Geoffrey Louis Young was arraigned yesterday after being taken into custody Saturday by Portland Police who seized a stolen 9 mm handgun which they believe fired four shots at the patrol car that followed his vehicle Thursday night.

Officer Brian Sims was uninjured during the chase. His vehicle was unscathed but the rear window of the Ford Tempo he was chasing was shattered by the bullets fired by the driver. The Tempo, police said, belonged to the suspect's sister.

Young ran from the Tempo, police said. he was additionally charged with four counts of unlawful use of a firearm, attempted first-degree assault, attempting to elude police and possession of a controlled substance.
