Ann M. Castelli becomes Rhode Island's first female sheriff
[KENT COUNTY, RI]

(KENT COUNTY, R.I.) -- Ann M. Castelli, of Warwick, a deputy sheriff of Kent County for the past 10 years, has been named high sheriff of Kent County. Castelli's appointment was announced by Governor Lincoln Almond. Castelli replaces retiring Sheriff Normand J. Defosse and will serve the remaining six months in Fosse's term which will expire in June, according to the Providence Journal. Castelli served most recently in the Family Court. "I am pleased to appoint Ann to this position," Governor Almond said. "Her years of experience in the Kent County Sheriff's Department will be a great asset in performing the duties of her new post. I would like to congratulate her on becoming the first woman to be named sheriff in Rhode Island."
