Thousands mourn slain Ohio deputy, 'an angel'
A 2-mile-long line of about 2,000 cars stretched to the church for Clark County Deputy Suzanne Hopper's funeral Friday
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — So many people turned out to mourn a sheriff's deputy shot to death in a western Ohio trailer park that her funeral was delayed.
Several media outlets report a 2-mile-long line of about 2,000 cars stretched to the church for Clark County Deputy Suzanne Hopper's funeral Friday, leading to a delay of nearly an hour. Law enforcement officers from across the state and country were among the mourners.
Hopper was a 40-year-old mother of two. She was shot New Year's Day at a mobile-home park 50 miles west of Columbus while investigating a report of gunshots.
The shooting suspect was killed after a gunbattle with police. An officer was wounded.
Hopper's friends and colleagues talked of her kindness and dedication in their funeral tributes. Her husband said, "We lost an angel."
