(CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y.) -- Frank K. Wisniewski Sr., 57, a retired Cheektowaga police officer, died Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000) in St. Joseph's Hospital, Cheektowaga, after a short illness.

Wisniewski retired in 1990 after serving for 23 years on the Cheektowaga Police Department, where he was assigned to the accident investigation unit.

Earlier, he served briefly as a Buffalo police cadet and a security officer with the New York Central Railroad.

Born in Buffalo, Wisniewski was a graduate of the former Bishop Ryan High School. He had resided in the Village of Sloan for many years.

He was a member of the Retired Police Association, the National Rifle Association and the Cheektowaga Democratic Committee. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Wisniewski is survived by his wife, the former Joanne Pytlak; two sons, Matthew of Attica and Frank K. Jr.; a daughter, Angela Casey of Attica; and four grandchildren.

Prayers will be recited at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in the Daniel R. Smolarek Funeral Home, 2047 Broadway, Sloan, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 1990 Clinton St. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
