Officer injured as hand pinned
|PoliceOne Staff Report|
(FARMINGTON, Conn.) -- A man that police describe as "a little crazy" was arrested yesterday after he tried to drive away from the scene of an accident with an officer's hand stuck in the car window.
The officer, who was not identified, broke the driver's side window with his other hand in order to free himself. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for cuts from the broken glass and possibly a fractured hand.
Alexander Ortiz, 40, remained at large for most of the day, but was arrested in the afternoon.
He was charged with escape from custody, breach of peace, assault on a police officer, reckless driving and engaging police in pursuit.
The officer responded to a call of a minor two-car collision at 8:30 yesterday. After the officer arrived Ortiz became increasingly agitated and when the officer attempted to arrest him, he drove off.
"The guy started getting a little crazy," police Chief Michael Whalen told the Hartford Courant.
