(BERGEN COUNTY, NJ) -- Air Force authorities are investigating the shooting death of a base security policeman, an official said Wednesday.
Investigators have not ruled out suicide, the official said.
Airman Derek Grigg was killed Sunday night as he was preparing to go on duty, said Tech. Sgt. Mark Haviland, a McGuire spokesman.
The shooting occurred outside the headquarters of the 305th Security Forces Squadron, where Grigg was assigned.
"I'm sure in this circumstance that suicide is definitely a possibility," Haviland said. "They'll look at all angles as far as this incident is concerned."
Haviland said Grigg had his service weapon, a 9mm Beretta semiautomatic pistol, with him at the time.
