(LICKING COUNTY, Ohio) -- A police officer will face another trial because jurors found him not guilty yesterday on two sex counts but were unable to reach a verdict on a third count.

Judge Gregory Frost of Licking County Common Pleas Court said he would schedule a new trial on the third charge against the patrolman, Christopher Maring, 36, of Newark. Jurors deliberated about nine hours in two days. They found Maring not guilty on counts of gross sexual imposition and sexual imposition involving a teen-age girl between August 1997 and January 1998.

Jurors could not reach a verdict on one count of gross sexual imposition involving a woman. The third count involves an alleged incident at the woman's home near Thornville in southern Licking County in April or May 1996.

Maring was indicted in November after a two-month investigation by sheriff's investigators.

Maring, who has been on paid leave, joined the police department in 1996.
