Authorities arrest one of FBI's 10 Most Wanted in South Carolina
February 15, 2001, Thursday
Aurlieas Dame McClarty, 22, was wanted in four states, including Florida where he's accused of murder, said FBI Special Agent George Burttram.
Investigators from the FBI and other agencies tracked McClarty to the Midlands about two weeks ago, FBI spokeswoman Kathleen Murphy said.
"We received information from field agents that he might possibly be here," Murphy said. "At this time, we're still not sure what brought him to the area."
The suspect was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon at an Irmo home, Burttram said in a news release. The exact address was not released Wednesday.
"We certainly like to catch the ones who make it to the 10 Most Wanted list. The ones who make that list are usually pretty violent," Murphy said.
McClarty, who also goes by several aliases, was wanted on a double homicide charge in Florida, a bank robbery charge in Maryland, a criminal deception charge in Indiana and unspecified charges in Oklahoma, according to the FBI news release. He also was wanted by the U.S. Secret Service on a counterfeiting charge.
The double homicide occurred July 18 at a truck rental dealership in Orlando, Fla. During a robbery, two employees were shot in the head and killed, and $200 was stolen, according to the FBI.
McClarty was added to the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list Feb. 5.
He is scheduled to appear before a U.S. magistrate in Columbia Thursday for a removal hearing.
Agencies involved in Wednesday's arrest included the FBI, the U.S. Marshal's fugitive task force and the Irmo Police Department.
