Obituary: JAMES T. FRANCIS;retired police officer dies a 86

(BUFFALO, N.Y.) -- James T. Francis, a retired Buffalo police officer, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) in Gardens at Manhattan Nursing Home in Buffalo. He was 86.
A native of Buffalo, Francis attended East High School, where he ran cross country, and also participated in the Boston Marathon. He wrestled professionally in the 1950s under the name "Sailor Doyle."
Francis joined the police department in 1941. His assignments included working as a gym instructor and running the Police Athletic League program. He retired in 1973.
A veteran of the Marine Corps, he was a past commander of Post 17, Police Amvets.
Francis was a past president of the Retired Civil Service Employees of New York and was treasurer of the Erie Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Dorothy Winnie of Buffalo, and a brother, Philip Francis of Buffalo.
Prayers will be said at 10 a.m. today in Joseph Spano and Sons Funeral Home, 473 Niagara St. Interment will be in Forest Lawn. (Habuda).
