(BEVERLY, Mass.) – Two police officers were injured during a car chase when a woman at the wheel of a stolen car hit one of the officers with the vehicle and then, a few minutes later, slammed on the brakes, causing a rear-end crash, authorities said.

Sally Palocci, 40, and Maurice Carr, 23, both of Marblehead face charges that include attempted murder and car theft.

The pair allegedly took off in a Honda Accord they spotted left running outside a store in Beverly. Officer Jeff Liacos, who was standing on the sidewalk with his gun drawn as police attempted to cut off the Honda, suffered back and neck injuries when the car came up onto the sidewalk and hit him.

Officer Clifford Woodfin’s neck was hurt when his police cruiser slammed into the back of the Honda.
