Indiana troopers honor fallen comrades

Ceremony honored 46 men and women killed in line of duty since 1933, including 4 this year

SOUTHERN INDIANA — Frank Smith had a "tough" Wednesday morning watching the police's annual memorial service instead of leading the color guard in the ceremony, which he did from 1981 to 2010.

Smith attended the Indiana State Police at the Evansville District's annual memorial service at the Evansville Post for state officers killed in the line of duty since 1933.

The morning ceremony "gave us an opportunity to come together as a state police family and honor those 46 men and women that were killed in the line of duty," said Sgt. Todd Ringle, spokesman for the Indiana State Police. "It's also a reminder that our job is dangerous."
