Deputy Shooting
[Harrison County, TX]

April 27th, 2001
The Harrison County Sheriff's Office is in mourning after losing one of its own.

Lt. Clay Madrano was shot and killed while he and deputy Chris Dotson served mental papers on a man by the name of Charles Anderson. Investigators say the officers approached Anderson's mobile home on noonday road.

He opened fire on the officers with an assault rifle. Anderson then got into his car and drove away.

Deputy Dotson who was seriously injured with gunshot wounds to his chest and wrist, managed to radio for help.

Investigators say Anderson drove his car about a half mile down the road to a pasture behind his father's home. Deputies say that's where Anderson shot and killed himself.

Those who knew lt. Madrano say he was a dedicated officer who loved helping others.

Deputy dotson underwent surgery a Good Sheperd Medical Center in Longview. The sheriff says he is expected to pull through. The deputies were serving papers after neighbors complained about Anderson waving weapons on his propery in a threatening manner.
